End the evening with a warm welcome dinner and a short introduction to the tour’s focus: celebrating the stories and strength of Bhutanese women.
Day 2: Thimphu – Weaving, Wellness & Wisdom
Travel to Thimphu and start your day with a visit to a women-led weaving center, where traditional backstrap and loom weaving techniques are preserved. Engage with the artisans over tea and hear stories of how weaving empowers their families and communities. In the afternoon, participate in a Bhutanese wellness session, featuring herbal remedies and techniques used by traditional female healers.
Day 3: Art, Culture & Female Creators
Explore Bhutan’s National Institute for Zorig Chusum, where young women are now taking on roles as painters, sculptors, and carvers in what was once a male dominated tradition. Afterward, enjoy a guided walk through local markets where female entrepreneurs share their crafts and produce. In the evening, enjoy a storytelling session over a traditional dinner with a local female historian or writer.
Day 4: Punakha – Heroines of the Valley
Journey through Dochula Pass en route to Punakha. Visit Punakha Dzong, known not just for its beauty but also for the Queen Mothers who’ve supported its preservation. Later, take a gentle hike to Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple, and learn about Drukpa Kuenley’s legacy and how it empowers women’s roles in motherhood and family life. Rest in a local farmhouse run by women.
Day 5: Nuns of the Himalayas
Visit Wolakha Nunnery, where you’ll engage in a quiet meditation session and informal discussions with the nuns about their spiritual journey, daily routines, and place in Bhutanese society. In the afternoon, walk through surrounding villages and interact with female farmers working the terraced fields. Overnight stay in Punakha.
