Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Bumthang Gateway to the Spiritual Valleys
Arrive in Bumthang, the spiritual heartland of Bhutan. After checking into your lodge, enjoy a soft walk around Chamkhar town and visit Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples. In the evening, attend a welcome orientation where you’ll learn about the significance of sacred trekking routes and Bhutanese pilgrimage traditions.
Day 2: Hike to Kurjey Lhakhang & Tang Rimochen (Sunrise)
Start early for a sunrise hike to Tang Rimochen, a powerful spiritual site said to be blessed by Guru Rinpoche. On the way, visit Kurjey Lhakhang, where legends say the Guru meditated and left his body imprint on a rock. After lunch in a village home, descend into the Tang Valley and set up your eco-camp by the river.
Day 3: Meditation in the Forest & Visit to Ugyen Choling Palace
Begin your day with a guided forest meditation led by a local lama beneath ancient pine trees. Then hike toward the peaceful Ugyen Choling Palace Museum, a former noble residence that now tells the story of Bhutan’s spiritual aristocracy. Overnight in a traditional guesthouse in Tang.
Day 4: Hermit’s Path Hike to Kunzangdrak Hermitage
Today’s trail takes you through a quiet pine forest toward Kunzangdrak Hermitage clinging to a cliffside and still used by monks for silent retreats. Take time for self-reflection and light butter lamps in the cave temples. Descend slowly and enjoy a picnic lunch near a mountain stream. Return to camp.
Day 5: Camp at Mebar Tsho The Burning Lake
Trek to the sacred site of Mebar Tsho, where Pema Lingpa is said to have discovered hidden treasures beneath the lake’s firelit waters. Set up camp by the riverside, enjoy riverside tea, and listen to legends shared by a local storyteller under the stars.
Day 6: Hot Stone Bath & Local Farm Farewell Dinner
After days of hiking, enjoy a rejuvenating traditional hot stone bath in a village home. Share a home cooked farewell dinner with locals and fellow travelers, reflecting on your spiritual journey through the valleys. Optional: try Bhutanese herbal infusions and millet wine (ara).
Day 7: Departure from Bumthang
After breakfast, transfer to Bumthang Airport or continue your onward journey through Bhutan. Carry with you the silence of the mountains and the stories of hermits etched into the rocks and wind.
