Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Into the Mystical Mountains
Land in Paro, where you’ll be greeted with a traditional khadhar (white scarf). After a light cultural tour of Paro Dzong and the National Museum, drive to Haa Valley, a secluded alpine region steeped in warrior legends. Settle into a rustic guesthouse surrounded by pine forests and fresh mountain air.
Day 2: Immersion into Haa – Valley of the Hidden Spirits
Spend the day exploring Haa’s scenic beauty and lesser known monasteries like Lhakhang Karpo & Nagpo, known as the White and Black temples. Learn about Haa’s sacred guardian deities and enjoy a storytelling session with a village elder over butter tea.
Day 3: Haa Summer Festival – Celebration of the Highlanders
Today is the main event the Haa Summer Festival. Dressed in traditional Bhutanese attire, join locals in dances, food, crafts, and games. Witness archery competitions, yak displays, and folk performances celebrating nomadic life. Try your hand at khuru (traditional darts) and sample highland delicacies.
Day 4: Living with the Nomads – A Night in the Yak Tent
Travel further into the highlands to meet a herder family. Settle into their yak-hair tent for the night. Help churn yak butter, learn to prepare suja (butter tea) and cheese, and listen to stories of survival and spirit. Enjoy a highland dinner by firelight beneath the stars.
Day 5: Hike Through Highland Trails & Warrior Games
After breakfast with your host family, hike through flower filled meadows and along ancient trading paths used by yak caravans. Return to Haa town by afternoon and take part in traditional wrestling matches, guided by local youth. Wind down with a bonfire and music filled evening.
Day 6: Return to Paro – Cultural Encounters Continue
Depart Haa for Paro, stopping along the way to take in panoramic views of the Himalayan range. In Paro, enjoy a visit to a local farmhouse for a traditional lunch and a private textile demonstration. The day ends with a cultural farewell dinner featuring highland songs and dances.
Day 7: Departure – Farewell to the Forgotten Valley
